Instagrammers Capture “Ring of Fire” Solar Eclipse

See more photos from the eclipse by searching #eclipse and #solareclipse.

The first annular solar eclipse of 2013 took place yesterday. The passage of the moon directly in front of the sun made it appear as though there were a “ring of fire” in the sky.

Instagrammers from Australia and the islands of the Southern Pacific Ocean—the only places where the eclipse was visible—shared photos of this spectacular sight.

Train Stations Around the World

Want to see more great train photos? Check out the hashtag #fr8heaven.

Today is a big anniversary for railroad fans: It’s the 144th anniversary of the completion of the US transcontinental railroad. The railroad facilitated travel from the east to the west coast of the United States.

Train stations have been around for over 200 years—ever since the United Kingdom constructed the very first structures in the early 19th century. Many of these early 19th century stations reflect the grandiose architecture popular at the time, while those built more recently are more likely to have simple, abstract designs.

To honor the history of these buildings, we gathered together a list of some of the most beautiful stations from around the world. For more photos of each building’s stunning architecture, visit the location pages below:

Have you heard of Car Free Day?

It takes place in Jakarta every Sunday from 6-11am, with some of the main roads in Indonesia’s capital solely dedicated to pedestrians, joggers and bicyclists. It is used as a platform to promote the “Ini Aksiku! Mana Aksimu” campaign from Earth Hour Indonesia teams, who are among the most active groups involved in Car Free Days taking place in cities across the country.
